March Madness

March already ... birthdays galore this month.  March around the Pacific Northwest is mild ... rainy though ... usually a lot of it!

Hope everyone has a peaceful day.

Today is the unofficial start of Spring here in Arkansas. It snowed. Nuff said!

Re: March Madness

Even got cold here again in Florida. 30 degrees and 40 MPH winds today.

Someone started a big brush fire here very scary. Strong winds blowing and it is growing. They are evacuating people in its path.

Makes ya wonder how someone could set something like that off?

Be safe out there,

DWB

I think there are a lot of mentally and emotionally unstable people who are doing horrible things because they've reached the end of their rope. I also think people are becoming mean. Just look at tv. There are so many programs that are based on people being mean and nasty...the cable news coverage is based on being mean and nasty...most reality shows...so when you combine what is generally accepted on tv with what people need but are generally ignored in real life, it's no wonder we have individuals doing all these horrible things.

For a while I had almost given up hope but I'm finding that there are a lot of us who find this general state of mean as not acceptable. If we stopped pointing fingers it would go a long way to making life a bit more comfortable...but I don't think we have any politicians in this group who might be listening...maybe I should have put this in the rant topic  😉

Re: March Madness

No Soloinar ... it's okay to post here ... and you are right there are a lot of mean people.  But, when you find the good ones ... it kind of helps it easier to bear the the mean ones.  I also find there are more rude people then there used to be.  And too many people do not give way to someone with a cane or walker.  They would just as soon walk right into you.

We got an amazing deal this weekend ... for 50 cents we bought this opalescent carnival glass bowl with a peacock on a fence ... winds up its a Northwood and could sell in the 100's of dollars!  Also got two Frank Sinatra commemorative plates that are musical.  They are cool ... 5 bucks a piece and they could sell for 20 or more.

Got our carpets cleaned Saturday ... my living room and dining room are bare except for the couch and the love seat.  Chem Dry did the work.  I was very disappointed.  Right after he first did the cleaning it looked good.  But as it dried all the traffic pattern stains came back.  I had told the lady on the phone that I had asthma and a concern about chemicals they may use ... she assured me that their company was ranked 1 for asthmatics because they use organics.  Then she tells me that they pretreat the heavy stains and so it may take longer to dry.  No problem.  Then the guy comes out to clean and on the work order it says not to use the pretreater as I have asthma.  So I emailed the company and voiced my opinion about the miscommunications and the dissatisfaction on the results of the cleaning.  Got an email back, they will call today and come back out and do the job again ... and do it right.  I just hope they don't charge me more.  I paid enough.  Nice that a company will still try to right a wrong and keep the customer happy.

Hope you all have a peaceful Monday.

Re: March Madness

DWB, Florida has always scared me, the alligators and such... 🙂 but then i read about all those sinkholes and that man just disappearing down a hole in his bedroom.. Talk about Alice In Wonderland... except his story did not end well at all...

anyway...  you said about brush fires being scary.. from living on the prairie most of my life, brush fires are a way to clean the land, clear the garbage and start anew...

sinkholes.. now that' some scary stuff!!!!

One of the reasons I enjoy living here is because people are polite. And there are a lot of people who have a tough time getting around. And there are a lot of people who won't give in. Saturday I was down at the post office and this elderly woman came in. She couldn't get her car started and had given AAA the number at the post office. I asked her if it was the battery and it turns out she just needed some help turning the steering wheel to unlock the starter. After I get it started for her she tells me she's 95 years old and doesn't always have the strength to turn the wheel hard enough to unlock it. Talk about a feisty old lady not giving up! Gave me a whole lot of inspiration!

Re: March Madness

Makes me feel humble in a way Soloinar ... when you think that a 95 year old woman is still up and active.  I should be so lucky.  That was a nice thing you did in helping her get her car started ... good karma.

So, I got my carpets cleaned and they didn't do a very good job ... I emailed them with my concerms about the traffic pattern stains ... they came out yesterday and redid the carpet ... used a pretreater on the stains.  The carpet is ten years old so I didn't expect perfection.  It looks much nicer now though.  I used Chem Dry and would certainly recommend them as they take customer satisfaction to heart.  I am pleased with that.

My eBay is going well right now.  In another post I talked about finding this clear embossed bowl with two peacocks on a fence ... carnival glass ... opalescent ... only one flaw ... a bubble in the glass.  We paid fifty cents for the bowl.  These bowls sell in the hundreds!  I was uber careful in taking the photos ... I knew it was important to get a good depiction of this beauty.  Can't believe we got it so cheap.  Some people just don't know what they are getting rid of!  If I may be so bold here is a link to my listing ... would love your feedback on it ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310618055243&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

Hope everyone has a wonderful day today ... may the sun shine on you wherever you are.

When I moved into this house the white wall to wall carpet had been steamed cleaned. I can't handle any kind of chemicals. Unfortunately all the stains came back. Fortunately the carpet is gone. It was one of the things that got taken care of last year when I had that horrible mold problem.

Re: March Madness

I am trying to decide whether to start a blog or not ... a blog about my fracture journey.  I have toyed with the idea of writing a book too.  I just can't seem to do anything but think about it right now ... I don't even journal anymore.  So much has changed since my injury.

Looking forward to Sunday ... the whole family is getting together to celebrate Christmas and March birthdays.  We have three birthdays in March ... mine, my youngest son and his wife's.  It will be so much fun to get together and spend some hours with the kids and the grandsons.  Oh boy, I can't wait for grandma kisses!!

Re: March Madness

Florida sure made the news with the sink hole deal. That only happens along the west side of the state. We are on the east coast.

On the west side of the state their is a lot of mining. They dug a zillion miles under the earth over the years. Big hollowed out things from years gone by. Then they came along and built homes on top of the old mines.

Bingo you got sink holes when there is a drought then it rains.

Like the 95 year old lady story. Nice you helped her like that. You both won in that situation.

We have carpets cleaned like that also. Try opening windows after they leave. It works for us here. May be too cold there?

The post office is dangerous for people walking right at cripples. My wife just stops me right there and glares at those coming at us. They go around us then. The non handicapped love to whip in the handicap spots. When asked they say "I'll only be a minute".

Last week there were 3 of the 4 handicap spots taken up by non-handicapped.  Believe it or not a handicapped person parked his truck right in back of all 3. Blocking them in.

Then he called the Sheriffs dept. He went into the post office and waited. When the deputy from the Sheriffs dept arrived he wrote all 3 of them $250 tickets. :^O

He also gave them a piece of his mind about how inconsiderate they all were.......

Re: March Madness

Oh I love your story about the handicapped parking ... I just got a temporary six month parking permit and have indeed noticed cars parked in handicapped spots with no tag hanging in the window.  Good for that guy who parked his truck in front of those three .... justice was done.

Re: March Madness

kate, that is a beautiful glass bowl!!! excellent find...  my biggest joy in todays world is finding treasures..   i found a fire king snoopy and red baron mug, bought for $10, sold for $117....  excites me when that happens!

My MIL is always telling me her 'crap' isn't worth anything but i'm able to give her about $300 a month from the sales of her 'crap' that isn't worth anything..

It makes me sad to see a family just estate sale or goodwill Grandmas whole life long collection because they don't want it or don't care or have no idea of the worth.. but what about honoring someone who you loved, gave you genes, had a long life.. etc.. 🙂

I just saw on the  news today two men bought a house, in the garage were a bunch of old paintings, sellers said "toss them, we don't want them"  so after a while they got to the garage and started looking at pictures.. an entire collection of an obscure artist from the 30's...

Value..   3 MILLION DOLLARS...     I about choked...

That's why i love to go treasure hunting.. 🙂  so congratulations on your bowl find!!!
