How Can We Get More Members Posting?

We have nearly 100 members of our group.

Many members read thru postings. They do not post any messages. Maybe they are shy? Not sure why?

Please give your thoughts on how we can get more members to write. 

Those who do post sure are some nice folks.

You know the old saying...you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. I've been in so many groups over the years and the vast majority of members never posted. It's the nature of the beast.

You make sense with this one. I belong to other groups also. And its the same way in all of them.

Also noticed posters come and go in other groups. And new posters are there for a while.

This is the nicest group I ever saw. So it will go on for ever. Keeps those friendly caring members reading all the time.

This morning in the PowerSeller group there was a posting about surgery.

A person posted a message about going for eye surgery. This person is very scared. 

DWB told them about the Disabled E-Bayers Group. A lot of people read postings in that group. So we may see some new members.

Good idea Kate for us to create new topics.

I've been on eBay boards and in groups since 2005 and to me it is much the same in both places, some new folks post for a while, then lurk, then sometimes fade out.  And some post from the get go and stay on. 

In one group I was in long ago the leader had a policy that if you did not post within a given amount of time you were removed. The idea was if you could lurk, you could at least say hello.  Not sure if I liked that policy but it was not my group.  It is still running after 6 years so I guess it worked for them.

I think some folks just like to read, not to write.

And some folks (like me, lol), never shut up. 😄

If I post too much, just let me know. I've been known for mega posts that put people to sleep mid-way through them.

As for those who read but never post. This group is loaded with people who are disabled. Many are scared, feel helpless, bashful, and so many other issues.

They can sit and read our postings all the time. Hopefully we help them feel better for a while. Some will send me an ebay message now and then. Tell me they never post but love to read our postings. They are too bashful to write.

If you are one of the bashful ones and reading this. We would love to hear from you.

(I lurk on a lot of eBay's boards, have for years.  You see a lot of interesting things when lurking, often learn a lot - the textile board is a favorite since I am trying to teach myself to weave.  There are many good boards.  And some the only reason you go there is if you are in the mood to stick your head in a blender for a while... 😛  Those can be interesting too, if you've had enough coffee before popping in...)

I was part of one of the communities a long time ago. It got very very nasty...to the point of people electronically stalking people, threatening them, etc. A couple of us decided to start a private group which was by invitation only. It worked out ok for a while but now there are maybe 5 people who post. I barely even go there any more.

I understand Soloinar.  I have had more than my share of problems in groups and boards so now I only lurk on the boards (and have to sit on my hands a lot, lol) and belong only to this group and one I have been part of since it's inception when I first came to eBay.  There are only four of us left there after 7 years. I go there every day that my internet is working (Hughes internet is snarky).

I am proud to say that those 4 people who became my friends when I first started out on eBay are still my friends.  They get me on my bad days, not just my good. I can be a real fruitloop some days. I appreciate that they get me and I try to do the same for them.  And always will.

I too have been stalked online, both on eBay and StumbleUpon. To the point a couple got my home phone from eBay. I had one fella from Liverpool calling here at all hours of the night, upset my Dad terribly. I learned to be proactive and find them before they find me and warned them that if they continued I would bring in law enforcement. It worked each time.

That got around and now I'm considered a stalker and have been called that more than once on the boards. 

Sometimes nothing you do is right.

Been away a few days again in a lot of pain. Good to see new postings that are so interesting.

Same here been around other groups here on ebay. Read some terrible arguements in other boards. 

We seem to have about a dozen of us who are in and out of this board posting. Seems we miss days due to pain or other medical issues.

Big difference when we miss posting cause of that versus lack of interest.

We have a lot of very caring members here. I learn a lot reading everyones thoughts.

Some days learn more than the doctors are telling me. :^O

I have made a very good friend through ebay groups. He is in the other group I belong to. We've had the opportunity to meet and he just stopped by for a visit on his way back home after spending time with his Dad.

There are good and bad in everything. I've learned to act like a duck when it comes to the internet...let it roll off my back like water rolls off a duck's back 😉

Thanksgiving was our everything here the past week. Wow where did the time go. 

Last week my wife was cooking day and nite  for 3 days.

Many of us are going thru things that keep us from posting for a while. I read so many times in postings how many members think this is the best group ever. It seems that way to me for sure.

And also find myself sitting here reading for an hour. Then can't sit no more to post. 

Seeing someone missing for a while I worry about them. Makes me wonder if they are ok.

Seems I figured out a large part of the reason for the headline of this thread. Some of us are just unable to at times.
