help with info on metal disc on marble/alabaster item

Does anyone know what these discs signify--artist or maker-thanks for any help

Does the disc say anything about it? It's too dark to read, can you lighten it?

I think the letters on the medallion are B W.   And I think I see a little ampersand (& ) right above the lower horizontal line of the B.   So B & W or maybe W & B.  That would indicate a maker, and not an artist's initials to answer your  question.
