Could the man on the left be William McKinley? Garret Hobart on the right?

The fact that they are not named in the photos would perhaps indicate they were well known to the public by sight.

Yes I believe you are right!  Hobart was McKinley's vice-president so that absolutely makes sense.   OP you have your answer.

I think @orphie1402 is correct with William Jennings Bryan and Adlai Stevenson.
