What is this Vintage item

I recently purchased this at an estate sale and I am stumped what it is.  It is some type of faceplate or cover but to what?  Any ideas?PlateCover.jpgPlateCover2.jpg

Re: What is this Vintage item

If you're thinking of a knitting machine carriage, it's possible.  I'm dubious, mind, you, but it's possible and I don't have anything better to offer.

Sorry.  Didn't see you'd already posted the "carriage" thing.  But, then, you're used to my showing up late for the party.  Smiley LOL

Oops, spelling error. I know I'm being graded here.

When I first read that I was like, what is he talking about spelling error? (Even though it was in bright red.) I went back and read the original three times before I saw that it was "seem" not "see". I guess my reading error compensated for your spelling error. see_no_evil

Read the following text without pausing, and count the number of times the letter "F'" appears:

The correct answer is 6. Almost nobody gets it right first time.

I was half right, and that's enough to graduate from most colleges.
