Plate with a fake mark

Can I sell this plate if I don't mention or show the mark?  I bought it here on ebay, but they didn't show a mark.

Re: Plate with a fake mark

No, you must disclose the mark. You obviously have to be full and frank with your buyers if you want to avoid the risk of bad feedback. But are you sure the mark is fake? See here:

I don't know this mark well enough to say if yours is faked or not, but I hardly believe someone would fake that mark, I mean if you are going to fake a mark you would fake a better company.

If by fake you mean the style is in imitation of various royal porcelain factories in Europe, you are quite right, but that is what they did in Japan at the time and the mark is legit.

I know of no restriction for not showing a porcelain mark, but why omit it?

If it is to hopefully get a buyer to believe this is the work of a European, royal porcelain factory, then that may come back to bit you.

Someone may be looking for a replacement, or even collect that brand.

I know of no factory of whose mark this is a fake or imitation.

You'd think so, wouldn't you?  But there's all sorts of faked "Nippon" coming out of China:

Like you, I don't know enough to judge OP's mark one way or the other.  But it's amazing, to me, how much comparatively  low-value stuff is being faked.

Re: Plate with a fake mark

Nippon is not a company it is Japan  you know like made in USA

They use Nippon when selling in Japan.  They say made in Japan when exporting here.

Hand painted nippon means hand painted in Japan, so no it is not a fake mark.

Hi,

You're posting to an old thread. If you check out the links in my original response you'll see that both related to the specific "IC" mark on the plate. Nobody here - including the questioner - thinks that Nippon is a company.
