Could you try and describe the material it is made out of and give the size.

I think he may be Fukurokuju, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, or Gods of Good Fortune, from Japan.

Somone looking over my shoulder tells me that since he is holding a scroll and a staff, he is more likely to be Jurojin, another of the Seven Lucky Gods.  So you should research both.  (I was also told I should be forgiven, for one is often confused for the other. Smiley Happy )

Help to identify old antique Oriental figure

Hi, Palmtreelucky; Thank you for your question..This little guy is about 4 3/4" tall..He seems to be made of some kind of pottery material..that looks to be a tan or brown color, almost like the old mudmen, but not as gritty....but..the texture of the material is grittier than normal ceramic.. When I tap him with a fingernail it sounds hollow...his coat is grainier than the material he is made from..He is cute little fellow...Would you know if he is from China or Japan?

Thanks again.

Warm regards,

Melissa
