Help identify vintage Italy bottle

This community has always been so helpful and I thank you in advance.  I have an old bottle I would like help identifying the maker or any info on it. The only markings on it are "MADE IN ITALY" a hallmark which might be "BRF"??? and the number "6" with a dot under it. Also what would this bottle have been used for. Thanks again.

Re: Help identify vintage Italy bottle

My best guess, based on the shape of the bottle and the style of the stopper, is that it is a whiskey bottle.  But with no indication of the size, who can say?

Re: Help identify vintage Italy bottle

BRF = Bormioli Rocco Figlio

Here's one with similar shape:

The metal clasp on yours seems rusty, is that right?  There are many BRF bottles in and around Google.

Yours could be a pharmacy bottle or for whiskey as Maxine suggests.

Hi Maxine, this bottle measures 10" X 5" and yes the wire is rusty.

I'm confused by the use of the term "inlay," what did you mean by that?

Re: Help identify vintage Italy bottle

I may be telling you something you already know, but I was curious as to what that wire and stopper closure might be called besides a "flip top" or a "bail closure," the two terms I'm familiar with.  It is also called a swing-top, lightning toggle, or Quillfeldt stopper (after the inventor, Charles de Quillfeldt), per Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flip-top

That might help you in further research.
