I need help in identifying this item. I have had it for a long time.
My Dad used to go to old way out of the way flea markets and buy up old swords and blades and
use the handles to make new pocket knives. He passed away in 84' and I found this in his belongings.
I have always hought it was a sword but have been told by someone who sells old swords on his website that it was not a sword but something that was used to cut crops ect.. Can anyone tell me exactly what it is called and about its worth? I cant find another one anywhere to compare it to.
Thanks!

There are many versions.
We own one issued to a friend in the 1980s.
Yours is missing the leather strapping on the handle.

Hey, the army may call it a survival machete (or more likely: Machete, survival type. ) but it's still a billhook.
Seriously, though, good catch.

Thank you. If it was used in WWII then it possibly could have been my Dad's in the war. Wow.

Which, if so, you might consider keeping it. I have an old military canvas tool bag that belonged to my dad who was in WW2. It smells horrible from all the old grease, and I have to keep it outside under the eaves, but I would never sell it. He used it up until the day he passed and it is irreplaceable.
