I received this rug from a friend who passed away. I have spent four hours this morning searching ebay and the internet to figure out where it came from. Thank you, dear people, for ANY thoughts! I think I want to sell it, but no idea where to start with it or what to call it. Maybe it's a wall hanging

Latin America somewhere. Given colorway, I'd look to the Andes. Likely a tourist piece.

Thank you, Debora. Yes, the colors seem to be undyed wool. I couldn't figure out where the figures were from. They almost look like totem poles to me--that's why I thought perhaps native american. It is rather crude in execution so I suppose this is of minimal value. Robin

The figures aren't crude; they're stylized. You're right in that it's Native American but you have to add the word Hemisphere to that. Don't know my iconography well but search words "Aztec" or "Incan" should bring up similar examples. Here's one somewhat similar from Ecuador.

In the United States, when it involves arts and crafts, "Native American" is a legal definition. Under the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990, the terms "Native American" and "Indian" can apply only to enrolled members or artisans of U.S. federally-recognized U.S. tribes. Indigenous peoples of other countries cannot legally be called Native American when it comes to marketing their crafts. The actual name of the tribe should be used if known, or the term "indigenous" if the tribe or culture is not known.

Thanks again! I will do that! Your help was invaluable as I had no idea what to call it.
