Can someone enlighten me on what this could possibly be? Sorry for the blurry picture. One mark is an M inside a diamond, which I believe to be the Marathon Company but I dont even know what to Google search because it's just an object...
There is another marking on there but I'll have to update the two letters, I believe it was, when I get back to the office
Any ideas? It was $1.50 at the thrift store so I grabbed it. Why not?

It looks orchid-inspired to me. For some reason I have always found orchids rather sinister flowers. Have you seen these astonishing ones with monkey faces?

I agree with Argon that it's a bud vase inspired by some sort of flower. Orchid is a good thought, or it might be someone's idea of a jack-in-the-pulpit or a cala lily.

I often wonder if that's real or photoshop at its finest.
Here's a better pic of the bottom

The marks themselves, for tired old eyes, such as my own:

This ashtray is by the same company as the one in your link - it also has the "Made in Japan" and "Design Reg. No." lettering which don't appear on the OP's object:

That occurred to me too, but apparently they are quite real:

Not that this helps with your item at all, of course.

I see the seller says it is by Godinger Silver, but is that their mark (why would they use an M)? Or did they only import it?

I just looked at a couple of dozen Godinger pieces, and all of them have paper labels. None of them have any marks like the marks on OP's piece. So perhaps the seller was wrong. (Or, of course, maybe I should have looked at another dozen Godinger pieces but I was bored because nothing I saw was very well done, or old, or of much monetary value.)
Oh, and yes, they were and are importers, not manufacturers.

I'd love to see my wife's reaction after I handed her a beautiful bouquet of monkey judging you flowers

I'm always so impressed with how knowledgeable eBayers are. This is a thread full of detectives.
