I have a two case pieces and a steamer trunk, I'm thinking about posting to ebay. Two are heavy - not over large- end tables. Does anyone have bright ideas about ways to ship for less than a king's ransom? I've avoided the big stuff so far, but we need room. Any bright or creative notions are welcome.
Thanks

Oh and just to make sure you know the shipping cost is used when calculating you final value fees: so high cost shipping of freight is very prohibitive.
Such with high cost shipping: is also an easy target for returns due to the cost to the seller to return can make it easy for the buyer to keep item and get the money back.
If the item is purchased with "local pick up" and the buyer arranges shipping outside of the eBay venue, there is no final value fee assessed on the shipping charge as eBay is not involved at all. It becomes an agreement between the buyer and seller. The shipping service does the local pick up.

This is not either a bright or creative solution: There are some things that are better listed as local pickup only. Or even through a venue like Facebook Marketplace or Craig's List.

Unless the pieces are extraordinary, most buyers won't pay the freight or shipping charge. As soh.maryl says, just offer only local pickup or at least as an option, and if an out of town buyer wants to pay and arrange for shipping, that's on them. The buyer would pay you for the item and have the item picked up by a shipping service, so you don't need to do anything really. I once sold a very large painting and the buyer contacted the shipping service and made all arrangements, paying the shipper directly.

Are these Louis Vuitton? Or similar? That is the only way that selling them here would make sense to me.

You can list it on eBay with Local Pick-Up Only. Here's the info you need:

to do this the seller must get the q code to say picked up, before shipping the item. Only safe way for the seller.
Of course is a very high risk for buyer doing this.

The seller does not ship the item. The buyer arranges pick up by the shipping service. Seller sits back and allows the pick up and gets a piece of paper from shipper that item was received. Seller marks item shipped or picked up. It's up to the buyer to use a reputable shipper. What's a "q" code?

q code is a verification the buyer gives the seller so the item can be shown to be picked up.
With out that code it is an item not revived. So if you are using pick up only be sure to get that code, and it works: before letting the item go.

I assume this is something new then. I never heard of it.

One piece is quite valuable, the others are maybe a couple hundred each. No Louis Vuitton, here!
The points you all have made are frustrating, but they make sense. The only one worth the freight is the one I'd be least comfortable shipping.
I thank you all for your advice.
