Coin error

Received this 1965 quarter in some change today and was wondering if it's an error or damaged? Maybe fire damage? Tia

To me it looks like a dirty old coin. No error or anything special. You can probably clean that up with some baking soda and water.

Perhaps others may see something else.

Good luck.

I am referring to the outer surface. The nickel or silver? seems to be over lapping the copper on top and bottom.

I am mainly referring to the outer edge being overlapped by the nickel on top and bottom. I've never seen one like this.

Could give it a silver test and if it is silver over copper core that would be an oddity..

Use to scan through banker boxes of coins pretty regularly with a jewelers scale and a loop..

Found a  few odd balls.

From what I can read in this article, your 1965 is standard but take a look yourself:

Looks like environmental damage to me. Value is 25 cents.
