Aprox 16" tall with 3 spouts and says RP38 on base. Matte brown. Any thoughts? Thanks!

How about a candlestick or flower holder?

Thanks, good suggestions. I think vase for those 60's thin dyed weed-type flowers. What I'm really going after is the maker which should be a direct path to the exact function.

In looking for maker, unless the reference to RP38 pans out, I have a feeling that unless someone that has one speaks up or you can find a picture of it, you may be in for a long haul. The glaze is nice, but I think it is going to fall under the 'decorative' heading, and perhaps not that old. It isn't something that is really useful, just decorative - how would one clean the inside if water were used for flowers?
Hehehe, I wonder if you have it pictured upside down and it is really a stand for something more?

Try keyword ikebana.

Good point. For what it's worth (= nothing), my first thought on seeing the photos was also a candle holder.

Although the wax would drip all over the place, so who knows.

How tall?

Still aprox 16" tall and the vase is hollow. There was a type of vase from the 60s that held dried and dyed tiny flowers with long stems. The real question is who the maker was.

I know exactly what you mean, but wouldn't the curvature of this risk breaking/damaging the long rigid dried stems?

An inherent risk when leading an artful life using such weeds as decoration, I'm afraid. I'm remembering them flexing.

I'm just thinking it doesn't seem a great design, if that's what it's for. Pieces would be snapping left, right and centre and it would be difficult to angle them properly. But I agree that it would have to be for dried flowers, if it's for flowers at all.

True, but way too much artsy pottery, factory and studio, is ill-designed for its purpose.

Yep, but I still feel it might be a candle holder. Perhaps it had small inserts to hold the candles and catch the wax.

But who made it?
