17th/18th cent Chinese saucer.........Animal?

I'm thinking 17/18th cent Chinese (region?) but what is that animal, cat, horse...? Aprox 7 1/2 dia. Are those 4 symbols around the rim saying anything?

That's two plates with this same basic design coming out of Indonesia.

Not sure what is going on here. The links in Messages 15 and 16 are literally the same plate. Not just the same design - the same plate. It's clear from the photos.

there is nothing unusual about the 4 Kansi characters around the rim,this piece is not that old.

you can tell from the shape and style of the kirin.

In Hong Kong,an antique dealer will bury his new pieces in the backyard of his country home,and he will go and dig them up after 3 months,this is how he harvested so called antiques.

just because it is dirty and chipped does not mean it is antique,just to the Chinese,it is not worth taking care of.

you can ask Soetheby or Christie Intl if you believe it is genuine 17th c

kirin,foo dog,any odd animal which looks ferocious the CHINESE cannot identify are mythical animals,back in the old days,foreign dignataries will present Middle Eastern lions (not African lions) to the emperor as gifts  and these mythical animals are descendents or artist rendition or imagination of the ordinary folks.

this is a modern rendition of such,it is kind of comical or playful and it has hooves,lions do not have hooves.

Two things; respectfully, I don't believe you, and two, I would not bother with writing to Sotheby's or Christie's regarding a $200-300 piece when I already know that they do not take items that are under $5000 value. Appreciate your input though.

I have contacted Christie’s many times and there is nothing to it

all can b done on the net...

better b sure than sorry...
