OT-Favorite Band/Music ~ Reading C&PM

Hello Friends,

I thought I would mix it up a bit and ask what people listen to (if anything) while reading & posting here. Music is a huge part of my life (for better or worse) but it is always a constant. Does anyone here have a favorite group/band that they listen to and would like to share that with everybody?

I will take that next step. My favorite band is Steely Dan and I listen to "AJA" quite often full blast with my JBL L-112's flexing their might and reading the posts here. It is a cool experience for me and I am in hopes that those who listen to music while perusing this board will share what they listen to. 🙂 No right,no wrong, no scam; it is what it is. Do tell...

Well, now that was revealing, Gary.

I have not heard songs like that since John Denver, but this one expresses more in a short time than most music or song that we will encounter in this life. In that song there is so much universal human experience summed up and much that never seems to get expressed, implied, or discussed.

Thank you. Thank you. : )

Merry Christmas, Gary. : )

You're welcome Larry. Merry Christmas to you as well. As I sat here reading the bible because on a quest for the true meaning of Luke, Chapter 2 Verse 14, I was reminded of that.

The lyrics, written by Leonard Cohen have two additional verses at the end. I'll reproduce them all here for Jody and his dial-up. You can also find the song, oddly enough, near the end of Shreck, during the final wedding scene.

Hallelujah: by Leonard Cohen

Now I've heard there was a secret chord,
that David played, and it pleased the Lord.
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this: The fourth, the fifth
the minor fall, the major lift,
the baffled king composing Hallelujah.

(chorus):
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof.
You saw her bathing on the roof.
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you.
She tied you to a kitchen chair.
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the Hallelujah.
(chorus)
Baby I've been here before.
I know this room. I've walked this floor.
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch.
Love is not a victory march.
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah.
(chorus)
There was a time you let me know
what's really going on below.
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
the holy dove was moving too,
and every breath we drew was Hallelujah
(chorus)
Maybe there’s a God above.
But all I ever learned from love
was how to shoot at someone who out drew you.
And it’s not a cry you can hear at night,
it’s not somebody who’s seen the light,
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
(chorus)
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word.
It doesn't matter which you heard.
The holy or the broken Hallelujah.
(chorus)
I did my best, it wasn't much.
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch.
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you.
And even though it all went wrong.
I'll stand before the Lord of Song.
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah.
(chorus) ______________________

This is about the only other song that I've heard by Leonard Cohen. I've probably heard many and had no idea who wrote them or was singing them, or what the words were about. I stopped paying attention to lyrics when they became unintelligible some time ago.

When I hear a reasonably paced song, with a nice melody, I'll listen to the words, but a younster I am not and their ability to relate to every ghetto beat and rap is beyonce me. ; )

But I have liked this song for a long time. It is sensual and spiritual without handing me gospel tracts, like grandpa always bothered folks with. SOme performers do not care if you don't understand their lyrics because they are mainly in it for the NOISE. lol

This is nice and slow, and nice. : )
