Where are you located, and how are you searching? It is possible to limit your searches to a particular radius around a specified location, but if you start a new search you should see general results that are not limited, in most cases.
Try starting a new search by going to ebay.com and entering some search terms into the search bar. If you are using the "Nearest first" sort, that will show items closer to your specified location at the top of the search results. Try changing the sort using the link in the upper right corner of the search results to a different sort order, like "Newly listed" or "Ending soonest". You can set your default sort order using the "Customize" menu found where you can choose between List or Gallery view in the upper right as well.
If you continue to have problems, try posting a link to one of your searches. If you are somehow limiting your searches using filters or sort order, that should be apparent from the page address.
Perhaps the items you are searching for is only available from sellers on the east coast under that particular name.
