Problem with USPS tracking on item I purchased.

I bought a tinket on ebay.  Paid via paypal got the shipping notice.  Then this happened:

The item found its way to Columbus, OH.  When that happened I emailed the seller who confirmed that the item was shipped to my correct address in Pennsylvania- that I have used for years and had hundreds of packages delivered to.  This item never arrived here.  It was returned to sender by the USPS in Ohio.  But its showing as delievered to me, which means I'm screwed.  I did email the seller saying that the return had arrived and seeing what was going to happen next, but no response yet.

This messed up tracking makes me unable to file a case for item not received.    So the seller can be dishonest and keep both my money and the item and resell it.  What can I do?

For starters, don't panic.  The parcel obviously didn't fly all the way from PA to AZ in an hour, so the scan is inaccurate.  Most likely it will be delivered correctly tomorrow, but your best move is to call your local post office in the morning,

Have you tried calling the USPS customer service phone number, and questioning them about the delivery?  If you do that, request the delivery GPS cooridinates.  Delivery scans have that information.  Tracking only shows delivery within a zip code, not your exact address.  By requesting the coordinates you can find out if the package was actualy delivered to your house or one a few doors down.  (asking neighbors if they received a package intended for you works sometimes, so does asking family members / roommates if they brought somethig in and forgot to tell you).  Carriers do make mistakes.  If your neighborhood has mail boxes, all in one group or you live in an appartment building, you may have to ask around since the GPS readings will be the same for everyone.   If you have a regular carrier and are around when they deliver, you can try asking them, if they scanned a package at your home.  If the place you receive deliveries is out in the open, its possible a porch pirate intercepted it.

My mailbox is by the road, 600 feet from the house. USPS mail person throws item in the ditch next to mailbox. People come along and take it. USPS tracking shows "delivered at mailbox".  eBay will not refund due to delivery confirmation.  I experirnce this regulary and not just from eBay, also from the other place.  USPS hoses me down all the time.  And forget going to the PO to complain, after waiting in line some one just says it was delivered. Next!

Why would ebay refund you? It’s not their fault your mail is being stolen. It’s your responsibility to have a safe place for mail delivery. If your packages are being stolen, you need to take responsibility and either arrange to have them held at the PO, get a PO box or use another address. You are also reporting the thefts to the police department right?
