This problem began suddenly about Aug 25. There is a buying restriction or limit on my bidding frequency for 3 sellers. These involve immediate "automatic payment" for winning-bid items. At the time. I had no unpaid outstanding invoice with any seller (not just these 3), had no transaction disputes, was on cordial terms with these sellers, and have been a long-standing eBay member. Then I suddenly began to encounter problems with bidding on "automatic payment" auction items (with credit card). The error message I receive is "Bid Failed. Please change payment method or add a new account." My credit cards work fine for all other eBay (and other) authorizations - except these 3 sellers. They are baffled by this problem - so am I. They prefer I pay for winning bids in lump-sums of combined items - and so do I. Paying for numerous small-dollar purchases individually seems inefficient and silly to me - yet I see no way to change it and don't even know how this got started. There seems to be some sort of restriction applied to me but it seems inconsistent. Sometimes no bids are accepted ("bid failed"); sometimes 10 or so bids succeed but abruptly stop; and sometimes A few additional bids get thru when I switch credit card payment accounts - but only one or two and sometimes none at all. I think these are parameters controlled by sellers but none know how to help. I need your help: (1) Please explain what is happening here and why. (2) Eliminate the "automatic payment" feature on these sellers (or explain how they can do it themselves) and return to the standard 'shopping cart/invoice' method. These problems relate only to auction bidding not "buy it now" or "make offer" situations. Await your reply. Thank you. abh
(p.s. - I found eBay automated help to be useless here. Also, if eBay sent me a notice about this problem, I haven't seen it and can't find one.)

If you had not bid on any auctions for a week or so prior to receiving the "Bid Failed" message, you could be receiving it if you use an American Express credit card. eBay and Adyen, their payment processor, stopped accepting AmEx card payments on August 17th.
Since you have bought/ bid on certain sellers auctions before and they allowed you to wait until you were finished bidding, before paying, it is doubtful you have any limits on your account, unless your buying habits suddenly changed. For example: The average price of items you've bought in the past was under $50. Then you started bidding on items that were $250 or more.
A change in your buying habits could trigger ebay to place a temporary limit on your account. Their CS reps may not know about the account limits being changed by ebay, because it is not brought up in their play book.
As for the auto payment problem, It has been an issue for both buyers and sellers since it was foisted on them back in 2023. eBay added auto payments to Auctions and Best Offers without notifying sellers, by adding 2 new Buyer Requirements to seller's other ones and opted them into it.
Then earlier this year, they removed auto pay from auctions, for about 6 months, then reinstated it again opting seller's back into it. They even changed the name from Buyer Payment Rules to Buyer Rules. screen shot below.
(2) Eliminate the "automatic payment" feature on these sellers (or explain how they can do it themselves) and return to the standard 'shopping cart/invoice' method. These problems relate only to auction bidding not "buy it now" or "make offer" situations. Await your reply".
In order to have your sellers to remove the requirement, they would have to uncheck the payment requirements for all auctions. By going to their account's Buyer Management page and unchecking the requirement for all auctions and/or Offers.
I do not know if it will work, but you might ask one to place you on their requirement exemption list, then try to bid on an auction and see if the Auto payment notice pops up when you try to bid.

This situation may be caused by the following reasons:
These three sellers may have set specific payment conditions or restrictions that are incompatible with your credit card or payment method.
There may be a system failure or error that causes payment problems in your transactions with these sellers.
Your account may have triggered eBay's risk control mechanism in some aspects. Although you have no outstanding invoices or transaction disputes, there may be other potential factors affecting the transactions.
It is recommended that you take the following measures:
Contact eBay's customer service team, explain the problem you encountered in detail, and ask them to assist in the investigation and resolution.
Check your credit card settings and related authorizations to ensure there are no restrictions or problems.
Try to communicate further with these three sellers to understand the specific payment requirements they set and see if a solution can be negotiated.

You are offering incorrect information.
Sellers don't have control over payments from buyers eBay's payment processor Adyen controls that. So sellers cannot set payment conditions.
Sellers can require immediate payment, or require a buyer submit a method of payment before making offers and placing bids.
Sellers can limit the number of items a buyer buys or bids on in a 10 day period, or completely block a buyer from making purchases.
The OP maybe experiencing buying limits set by eBay.

If the seller has placed buying restrictions requiring immediate payment, do not take it personally. Seller applies this rule to all bidders out of frustration of not getting paid in the past.

Read my reply 4 up/down the page depending on your sort order. Many sellers may not know they are opted into Auto Payments. Some may have opted out or thought it ended when ebay removed the option on auctions for about 6 months then reinstated late in June without any advance warning.

Removing buyer automatic payment option (uncheck box) on seller's Buyer Requirements page fixed problem.
