How to default my search back to list view? How to search for smartphones without accessories?

How do you set your search view as 'list' and not gallery view? I change it on the page but it doesn't change it as the default? Sometimes when I search there isn't an option to change it nor is there a drop down menu to search lowest to highest, best selling, etc. I end up just messing around with it for awhilea and finally I get it to show up.

It seemed like it's been like this for awhile and I just hadn't taken the time to find out how to fix.

Also, a lot of times if I'm searching for an item...for instance cell phones or smartphones, and I do a search from lowest to highest, I get all the millions of accessories up top. I just want danged phones. There sometimes isn't an option to just select cell phones and smart phones so I have to wade thru all the junk. I sometimes just put a money value of 100. - 600.00 to skip all the accessories but it shouldn't be that way.

Search is  just odd sometimes. Sometimes there is no option to search for 'new' items. Sometimes there is.

Or when I go to search 'sold' items I like to search 'most recent' at top but I have to change the drop down because it has defaulted to 'lowest to highest'.

Is there a way to change my defaults searches. I'm a bit tired of having to reformat each time I search.

Thanks.

Defaults often don't stick, and other than using a bookmarked search with the filters and defaults baked in, there is no (easy) way.

I use a basic search framework via bookmarklet like this:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?LH_PrefLoc=1&ipg=100&_sop=1&_dmd=1&_nkw=foo+bar

LH_PrefLoc=1 US Only filter
_ipg=100 forces 100 results per page
_sop=1 Ending Soonest filter
_dmd=1 list view
_nkw=xvzdkofyhtq search term that returns no results

Once that search is pulled up via the bookmark with the proper filtering in force, the search terms can be changed in the search box and other filters changed via the checkboxes on the left nav.

I don't know how well that works since the changes. eBay messed with the search pages earlier today and a lot of stuff like that may be broken, previous defaults (items per page, etc) are changed, and some appear to maybe not to be sticking.

You can change a search to list view with the toggle/dropdown in the upper right corner. If it isn't there or doesn't work, change the _dmd=2 parameter in the URL to _dmd=1 (if there isn't one, add &_dmd=1 to the end of the URL. Load the page and it should stick for a while.

From a succesful search result (one that has returned at least one match, as opposed to one that didn't find any but shows some listings that did not match) click the "View" box at top right and choose "Customize", then "Show results in" choose the left one that kinda looks like a list, make any other changes you need (e.g. your default sort order) and click the "Apply changes" button at the bottom.

From the list of filters to the left of the search results, choose as the subcategory "Cellphones and PDAs" (or something like that) to filter out accessories (except those that were deliberately or accidentally placed in the wrong subcategory).
