Google Pay infinite loop several duplicate charges

After choosing Google Pay as the payment method, then hitting the pay button, the screen flashed quickly several times, then eBay posted an error message, stating that there was a problem.

On my bank account app, I now had several duplicate charges listed, but eBay had not confirmed any of the orders. I finally switched to PayPal and the order proceeded properly. I had to call the bank and verify that the additional Google Pay credit card charges were being reversed.

Unless google is giving some sort of incentive you're better off using PP at checkout to get the backup protection to ebay's MBG. I remember years ago when google pay was new they were giving great coupons for using their checkout, but when the coupons ended so did my google payments.

Curious @helitree808 who does it say at your bank is the actual payee of those charges?

For example, when you eventually paid with PayPal, you see:
