buttons

Hello, Please excuse my ignorance, but I just discovered there are people who collect buttons. I sell Longaberger and other items on ebay to minimize my "stuff" (i'm 63) and thats' how I found out buttons are collectible, on ebay. I bought a can full of buttons 20yrs ago with a bunch of books at a public auction in Pa. I hope to sell some of these buttons on ebay since they seem to be of some interest to those who collect. I would appreciate any info anyone has about listing them. I did buy some books on the subject and have researched it somewhat but still have problems distinguishing between plastic and bakelite. I even have a problem with some glass. Any help out there. Thanks labsnme

Just about the most common question anyone asks button collectors. We all have a sense of style, pick out the ones you think are nicest and list them in a group. Don't make claims you cannot back up "for sure" such as "rare", "scarce" or name materials you are not certain of. Show fronts and backs of the buttons and not so far away that people can't see what you're offering, show well lit, close-up images. Best of luck !

Thank you for your answer and your advice on listing buttons on Ebay. I plan on listing a few in a week or two, my daughter has helped me with photos and hope it will work. Since discovering their collectibility, I have become fascinated with buttons and their history. Thanks again!
