I have a rather large stone button. Is it something rare?

This button is about 1 1/2 inches and made from stone as far as I can tell. There is no shank,  just holes. Sorry, no picture at this time but will post if anyone is interested.( I am away from home at the moment) It came with my family button box  where some of the older buttons have dated civil war.

The button is a dark grey in color. I'll post a pic in the next couple of days so you can have a look at it. Do you have any ideas what it might be?
