tracking numbers

As we all know, some sellers often provide tracking numbers but don't actually ship the item for days or even weeks. Once they provide a tracking number, though, Ebay tells us that the item has shipped. It has not shipped. I wish they would stop telling us that an item has shipped just because a tracking number was provided. Ebay should not say an item has shipped until it is actually in transit.

You have the estimated delivery dates on the listing on your Purchase History.  Those dates depend on the seller's shipping time, method of shipping, your location.  I have never waited weeks for a seller to ship.

tracking numbers

I understand how USPS tracking works. I am also a seller. I don't give the buyer a tracking number until I have actually brought the item to the Post Office. Anything less is misleading. USPS tracking tells the buyer whether or not the USPS is actually in possession of the item.  The vast majority of the items I have purchased on Ebay have  been delivered in a timely manner. My point is, a tracking number alone doesn't mean squat. If the Post Office is not in possesion of the item, then it has not shipped.
