I need to purchase an item. It is 717.81. My paypal credit limit is 500. I want to use 500 on paypal credit and 217.81 from debit card. Running into wall after wall trying this. Does this work and is there an easy way to achieve this?

No, you can not do this. The only time you can use multiple payment methods is when one of them is an eBay gift card.
