eBay keeps sending me notices of sign ins to my account from Chicago as an approximate location, asking mt to change passwords. I keep doing this but the same message keeps coming. My question is: how close must one be to the approximate location listed to count as your own actual location? I'm several states and maybe 1000 miles from Chicago, so this is a concerning/annoying recurrance.

eBay sends such messages for each sign-in from an unrecognized browser. Unrecognized just means that the browser has no cookies from a previous sign-in to that account, or the IP address does not correspond to a previous sign-in.
Keep in mind that the location may not be precise; location information is provided by the network used to connect to eBay, and the location may correspond to that of the network rather than your actual location. If you are using a VPN or a hotspot that can affect the location information shown, as can certain privacy software settings.
If you are routinely erasing your browser cookies, or changing your network address, you can expect to receive such messages when you sign in again.
Do the browser and time correspond to your own sign-in activity? If so, you can ignore the message.
If you do not recognize the location, time or browser, and you suspect that someone else may have gained access to your account, you may want to change your eBay password.
