I made 2 mistakes when selling a Harley Davidson Wheel recently. The first mistake was using the “sell similar” option when listing the wheel. I had sold a wheel from a touring model a few days earlier and then I created a similar post for a softail model wheel. The problem was the dimensions for the touring wheel where bigger and heavier. When the customer purchased the softail wheel he paid $90 for shipping. After I boxed and weighed the softail wheel, the cost to ship it came to $26. The customer asked me to ship the wheel the fastest way possible and I shipped it via Fedex 2 day ground. It cost $56. I sent the wheel on Wednesday and it arrived on Friday. The customer was very happy. The second mistake was taking the word of the service rep of our local Harley dealer. I purchased a front and a rear wheel combo in 2010 on ebay but i never used them. There is no part number on these wheels so I called the local Harley dealer to find out which wheel was the front and which wheel was the rear before I posted the wheels on eBay. Unfortunately, the wheels I received in 2010 were not a front and a rear wheel. Apparently, I received two front wheels. The original seller left the brake rotor on one wheel to make them look different. The buyer called to tell me the wheel he received was not the correct wheel. He requested a refund because the wheel was not as described. I called ebay support to find out what my options are for returning the wheels. I was willing to refund the wheel but I wanted to make sure I did not have to pay for 2-day whipping for the return. Again, when I sent it I had 2 options, ground at $26 or 2-day at $56. The first woman I spoke with told me I would be able to pay $26 for ground shipping to have the wheel returned. I also asked her if I would be able to avoid the sales tax as the sale never went through and she said I would pay the sales tax back to the buyer but I would get a refund on the tax from eBay. When I received the return request on ebay, a couple of days later, I started the refund process. The web-site did not give me an option to return the wheel ground; the only option was to return the wheel the same way I sent it, via 2-day. I then called ebay again and the second customer support person was very nasty and unprofessional. It felt like she hated her job and I was bothering her. She told me the previous customer service rep was wrong and I must pay $56 to return the wheel via 2-day and that I will not get the tax refunded. I asked her if I could speak to her supervisor. She put me on hold for 17 minutes then when she returned, she told me her supervisor was too busy to speak and that she would call me back. I asked her if the call back would be on the same day. She said yes, I asked her what I should do if no-one calls. She told me she would call by 5:00 PST. No-one called. It sounds unfair. I am willing to refund the customer the money but I do not need the wheel returned via 2-day shipping. Since the sale never was consummated I should not have to pay sales tax. Your help will be appreciated, thank you in advance for your time and attention. If it is any help, I have the SR number of both reps I spoke with.
