I purchased a "natural tanzanite"ring and had it appraised- two jewelers stated that the ring was fake. I contacted seller and he stated that natural tanzanite means that it could look like tanzanite but is a quartz (or similar) natural stone that was processed to look like tanzanite. I think the advertising is false and misleading and should state in description that the stone is lab created. Please advise.

Hi @mlou600
‘Natural tanzanite’ means natural tanzanite. It doesn’t mean natural quartz masquerading as tanzanite.
Ignore the seller and file a ‘return request’ from your Purchase History … choosing ‘Item doesn’t match description or photos’ as the reason for the request.
If the seller doesn’t provide a prepaid shipping label OR a full refund within 3 business days … then return to your open request and ask eBay to step in. eBay will handle the rest.

Thank you for replying. A refund isn't the issue per se-I object to the false description of "natural tanzanite" not being what is says and is a stone manipulated to look like tanzanite and is quartz or similar. So it is a natural stone but not tanzanite. The seller told me everyone knows this and does it and the buyer should know by the price that it is not the gemstone stated. I did explain this to an ebay representative and he said that is false advertising and will go from here. Again, thank you for your prompt and well thought out advice. I appreciated it very much.

I understand you would like some action taken about misrepresentations in listings. Your filing a return request will put the seller on record with eBay … but it usually takes more than one complaint to see action taken.

I am going to watch the seller's ads and see if anything has changed. Maybe it won't but I feel I stated my objection and will let ebay take it on from here. I will be way more vigilant when I purchase items especially from out of the US. Never had any problems with any other purchases!

The best was to get Ebay to take any action on sellers like that is to file and INAD and return the item for a refund.
Just talking to one of the reps won't get anywhere.
