eBay Authentication Process

I purchased two rings from a dealer in Japan while residing in the United States. One ring is a Cartier diamond eternity band, and the other is a Bvlgari yellow gold Zero band. Both items were advertised as authentic, a claim I believe to be accurate; however, only the Bvlgari band underwent the eBay authentication process, and I am curious as to the rationale behind this difference. The Cartier ring was priced at approximately $1,950 before tax and fees, while the Bvlgari was valued at $1,400. Although I am grateful to have received the certificate and guarantee for the Bvlgari, I have concerns regarding the lack of similar assurance for the Cartier. I reached out to the seller, who confirmed the authenticity of the Cartier and indicated that it is eBay's prerogative to determine which items require authentication. I would appreciate any explanation regarding this decision.

Re: eBay Authentication Process

The authenticity guaranty program for jewelry is a very complex one with several requirements that need to be met by the item.  If the item is not listed correctly the guaranty will not apply.  Without knowing the item numbers so we can look at the actual listing we would have no way of knowing why one item went through the guaranty and the other did not.
