I put the item as new on accident. I have been trying to add to the description but it won't show up. I need to show that it is a used item

You can't change the description on a listing that already has a bid on it. That would be completely unfair to the buyer as they bid when the description was different, so Ebay doesn't allow it.
When this item sells, you will be held to the description you had on the item. The safest thing for you to do is cancel all the bids. Correct the listing and then repost it. Send emails to all the buyers you cancelled the bids on and express you sincere apology for any concern you caused them but you had made a significant mistake in the listing and needed to correct it. Then tell them the change you made and give them a link to your new listings so it is easy for them to find their way back and bid.
Good Luck. And don't feel bad, we all make mistakes. You are doing a great job of catching it BEFORE it creates a problem and that is wonderful. Your buyers will be fine too as long as you inform them. They too know we are all human and errors just happen sometimes.
Let us know how it goes.

Your items have bids, so adding to the description is limited. I believe you can do so if there are more than 12 hours remaining in the auction. Use a LARGE COLORFUL font, as the addition to the description will be at the bottom of the listing.

The problem with that is that the seller can NOT hold the buyers to that information. Meaning if the buyers get upset because the item isn't new, the seller is just going to have to accept the return and the feedback fallout if any.
This can be avoided by closing the listing and relisting.

eBay gives sellers one waiver of the fee for cancelling all bids and ending an auction early without a winner per calendar year, for precisely this reason. When you have an error in the original listing this significant, adding to the description just doesn't cut it. You need to cancel all bids and end early without a winner due to an error in the listing, whether you have to pay the fee or not. Anything else is just asking for troubles that will affect you in the long term (as opposed to the short term of paying the fee and ticking off the bidders).
