Why doesn't ebay calculate shipping using dimensional weight on the shipping label page

I  just got screwed on this again.  They hit me with an undercharge that makes the shipping more than twice what they offered on the shipping label page.  I'm assuming now this was due to dimensional weight.  I did not calculate this because there was no warning or notice that I saw on the shipping label page about it.  If the shipping label page sees a box 48x6x6 and it's only 2.5 lbs. why can't they do the calculating or at least pop up a warning that you should check dimensional weight, instead of offering some bogus shipping amount?

Hi @buy1_4me

On the cost adjustment message you received, look at the details. They show you what you entered on the shipping label versus what was measured at the distribution hub.

Thanks,

I checked the adjustment details and my size and weight are listed exactly as I entered them.  But I did not use dimensional weight so I can only assume that is what caused the undercharge.   Although the details did not say anything about dimensional weight, nor list the dimensional weight but only showed the actual size/weight.

USPS will say the class of service or the weight or the size on the label doesn't match what they found (they specify which one and show what was used for the label versus what they found). For example:

Which one are they saying is off?

Sorry, I guess I did not say before that I shipped UPS, not USPS.  Here is all they say in the shipping details.

On a related note, I checked the UPS website and it calculated the charge based on dimensional weight and it came out to $24.88 (11 lbs. billable).  OK, but shouldn't ebay's discount (49%) make it approx. $12.50, not the $20.36 that they charged me?  Looks like this is not just my fault for missing dimensional weight, but UPS is adding extra charges for some unknown reason.  Any thoughts?  Should I contact ebay and complain?

Hi @buy1_4me

That does make a difference. I  ship exclusively through USPS. I have read that UPS and FedEx tacks on additional charges after the fact (which is one reason I don't use them - plus they are more expensive than USPS for what I sell).

You might try posting on the shipping board to interact with members who might be experienced with using UPS.
