Why do I owe $ for returning a buyer's $?

I recently sold an item on ebay and the buyer requested a refund stating he could not afford it at the time. Me being understanding and not wanting someone else to pay if they can't afford it I agreed to refund him. Well long story short I owe $350 and no explanation either. Anybody have A guess why? Thanks

I recommend adding the buyer to your blocked list>  https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock?

Refunds, even for order cancellations, come out of your available funds not pending or held. If you do not have available funds then eBay charges your back up payment method for selling costs.

Have you entered your backup payment method for selling costs here: https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list Select Manage under the method you want to use then select Preferred for selling costs. I use a credit card.

Once you issue the refund and the buyers funds are released from being held or finish processing then the buyers payment is released to you.

You will need to contact eBay customer service for assistance if you have any problems with the refund process.

Select Chat with automated assistant on the left hand side of this page:

https://www.ebay.com/help/contact_us?id=4191&st=10

Then in the chat box on the lower right of the linked page type AGENT to talk to a live eBay customer service agent or request a call back.  You may have to answer the chat bots question first so you are connected to the right department.
