Why do I get charged immediately, but it takes several days to get my refund? That's messed up!

Get a defective item, wait for it to get back to the seller, then wait two days for them to issue a refund...and another several days to see your money back... WHY? There's no problem with them immediately getting my money for the sale immediately!
