What's the reason for the "from" zip code on eBay shipping label?

Is there a USPS or eBay requirement for the "from" zip code to be the precise zip code from where you ship the parcel? The "from" zip code is the seller location which is in the listing and appears on the eBay shipping label, and it can be different from the return address. I live between two post offices, two zip codes, so I ship from both. I had a USPS employee tell me that I can't ship a parcel from zip code X if my "from" zip code is Y (not the return address). If I generate a shipping label from the USPS website this "from" zip code doesn't appear on the label, which makes me think this "from" zip code appears on the label for eBay's reasons, not the USPS, which makes me think the USPS employee is incorrect. I have never in my life ever heard of restrictions on mailing/shipping a parcel from a different zip code, but the only time I'm aware the zip code appears on the label separate from the return address is on eBay labels.  So is anyone aware of  why this "from" zip code is on the label and is there a requirement that that must be the post office from which the shipping actually commences? I'll add that not infrequently I'll ship from any of many other post offices in the region when I running errands around town and will ship from a convenient PO nearest me at the time, and I've never been told I can't do that by PO staff. Thanks for any insights!
