Please can you tell me what is the meaning of the number that appears on the top right corner of the eBay icon on my phone ?

I don't use a phone for ebay.  Is it an iPhone or an android?  Hopefully, someone who uses a phone will be able to help you after you describe what type of phone you are using.

eBay has different  Apps and different icons for different purposes, so it depends on which mobile device you are using (iPhone or Android) and which screen you are visiting. Most likely, the number represents notifications— which could be messages or shopping alerts or selling alerts. Tap the number to see more info.

You might ask on the Mobile Apps forum to get a better description, if you can describe the page you are on.
