Weird Buyer

I hope someone can help me with this.

A buyer just purchased a crockpot from me for $46

BUT

The shipping all the way  across the country is $52.

They could buy the same item on Walmart or Amazon with no shipping cost.

This seems so weird to me. I messaged the buyer but haven't heard back yet.

I seems like one of thise suspicious "buyers".

I'm thinking of telling the buyer that the item is broken and give them a refund.

Maybe I'm a bit paranoid because I've had a couple of scammers lately----I lost some money, plus it was a hassle.

Can anyone help me know what to do?

Thank you

Hi @awesome-stuff4u

If you list an item for sale and it is purchased than you ship it to the customer.  You have no idea what their reason is for buying it .... maybe they are home bound, maybe they like Buying on eBay or on the internet.

You have sold only 2 items, how do you know you have " ... had a couple of scammers lately." ?????

While you are a new Seller and a target for scammers I don't see that you have a lot of high risk high scam items for sale.

My only advice is that you change the No returns accepted return policy to Accepting returns.  Buyers KNOW eBay has numerous return reasons that bypass that setting, force YOU the Seller to pay for return shipping with no option to withhold it when you refund in full when you get the item back.

Become familiar with eBay's Seller protections.  I offer 30 Free returns and get full benefit of the protections when applicable. Seller protections | eBay

A lot of Sellers think they can avoid a return with the No returns accepted setting ... not true at all.

I have been selling on Ebay and off since 2018. I've sold about a dozen items.

I get what you are saying about different reasons people buy but this seems questionable to me.

Why would someone pay MORE for the shipping than for the item?

I am changing my policy to refunds allowed after a scammer bought a brand new pair of shoes and then said they were gross and stinky when they arrived. A 5 year orl would have noticed the picture they sent of the item was edited to support their claim. I tried to work it out with the buyer and then with Ebay but Ebay gave them their money back plus I had to pay all shipping costs.

Ebay was so much better when I began in 2018---they supported the sellers better.

I guess I'll ship this out and see what happens.

The Sneaker Buyer abused the return process and that is when Sellers use the Report Buyer link on the sold item and with Seller protections that apply would be able to withhold the original shipping the Buyer paid and possibly withhold up to 50% of the item price if the Buyer changed the item's condition.

Please keep in mind I am not doing cheerleading here just trying to explain what helps protect Sellers on today's eBay.  I offer 30 day Free returns and when necessary take full advantage of Seller protections.  On other returns I refund in full including the Buyer's original shipping if it was truly my mistake.  My return rate is relatively low so I am Thankful for that.
