Vehicle Purchase Help

I purchased a vehicle on November 28, 2023. The seller said that he'll work on getting the vehicle shipped for me since he deals with this all of the time. He mentioned that due to the Holidays, things may take longer.

Fast forward to today. Every "the vehicle will ship on ____" date has passed, each with its own unique excuse as to why the vehicle hasn't shipped.

"I'm sick."

"Mom is in the hospital."

"Son is having surgery."

Etc. Etc. Etc.

In addition to this, I still haven't been able to get the Title to the vehicle. Asking for that results in more excuses. Looking up his local laws, since he's registered as a Dealer, he's breaking the law in his state.

I've tried to use the eBay Motors Vehicle Protection Program, and have gone through the steps to open a Case, but every time I hit Submit I'm greeted with: "We are not able to process your message now. Please contact eBay Customer Service."

Reading, this may be because he's dragged his feet for so long that I'm past the (ridiculously low) 30-day threshold.

However, the fine print says I may be able to get an extension on this since I don't have the Title...and they may step in up to 365 days after the purchase.

I haven't managed to get the phenomenal Chat Bot to hook me up with an actual person to talk to, so I'm coming here for help.

How can I go about talking to someone at eBay regarding this? Please help!

@sxracer22.  I just want to check if you started the purchase on eBay.com or another site?

If you found the vehicle on another site then that sorry to say you were scammed.    eBay has nothing to do with sales on other sites.

@sxracer22. Glad that you purchased here.  We get a few people a day that "purchased " on another site that fell for a scam and thought they were buying from eBay.

disneyshopper, I don't see a "Have us call you." option.

I've done the Automated Chat and kept typing "AGENT", but the Bot keeps saying:

"I don't see any items with open requests or cases to ask eBay to step in and help with.

You may have purchased the item using a different account or as a guest. You can view older orders in your Purchase history."

comics-scifi-collectibles, I have no doubt you've seen your share of interesting posts / stories.

Thank you for chiming in. At my wits end over here after having tried to handle everything myself. Now I'm faced with the fact that I ran out of some deadline that this guy strung me along for.

@sxracer22   Regular CS can not help with eBay Motors vehicles claims.    Sorry I was on my phone earlier and couldn't get to the links.

You have 45 days from the listing end date to file the claim, as you already know.

Then it says 90 days for >

  1. If you receive the vehicle but do not receive the title, or learn that it is subject to an undisclosed lien, you will have 90 days from the date that the listing ended to file for reimbursement.

https://pages.ebay.com/motors/buy/purchase-protection/

I think that since you didn't receive the vehicle that the claim for the title might not be approved but it is worth a try.   You click on the blue submit a request button on this linked page>

https://pages.ebay.com/motors/buy/purchase-protection/

I think your only option at this point might be to file a small claims case which is not easy when you are in different states but it can be done.

Vehicle Purchase Help

comics.....,

I found a phone number for eBay Customer Support via Google (thank you eBay for making this SO  difficult...) and spoke with someone. They weren't able to transfer me to the eBay Motors department since they're closed on Sunday, but she gave me two phone numbers to call in the morning.

I'm going to contact them tomorrow and see what becomes of things.

I do know that after speaking with the Oregon DOT the other day, the title to the vehicle doesn't reside in Oregon, which is where the vehicle was listed for sale and the "Dealership" is located. The Title was last registered in Washington State, which may shed light on why the guy has been dragging his feet on the whole thing.

I told The Seller that I understood the logistics behind everything and that I was not "in an Amazon Prime rush" to take delivery of the truck. But the lack of communication, with no explanation as to the "why" things are taking so long...and the feeling that I'll never receive the vehicle / Title...I cannot tolerate it any longer. Hence this thread, etc.

Had I known (my own fault, I'm not saying otherwise) that I only had a measly 30 days to receive the vehicle / title...I'd have already gone through the process to have eBay intervene.

I'll post updates to this thread as I have them.

@sxracer22.  Be very careful with phone numbers you found in a Google search.   99.999 % are fake because the agents are working from home and you have to request a call back.

You seem like a smart person but I just want to mention this incase someone else reads this.

If they ask you anything hinky like requesting access to your computer or gift cards hang up, it's not eBay.

Vehicle Purchase Help

Comics....,

I don't see how it could have been a fake. They told me how handsome I sounded on the phone and told me they were going to help me, all I needed to do was give them my Social Security Number...

In reality, it was an automated system that was able to identify my account from the number I dialed. I was then connected with an Agent. Once on the phone with an Agent, she pulled-up my account and (without me saying a word) identified the eBay Transaction that I was calling about. - (I didn't provide any P.I.I. while on the phone.)

She wasn't able to connect me to the eBay Motors division, but that didn't stop her from trying once. At that point, she gave me two numbers to try today.

The number I called which put me in contact with this Agent was (866)540-3229. The numbers she gave me to try today are (866)322-9227 and / or (866)668-6774.

Vehicle Purchase Help

Spoke with a guy on the phone, he walked me through the eBay Motors Protection area, and we managed to get the 'claim' started, where as it kept crashing for me.

He's sending me info and they'll assign an Adjustor (might be the wrong word...) and we'll take the case from there.

Progress!!

Vehicle Purchase Help

Update and Resolution:

A couple of weeks after my last update the Seller contacted me and informed me that he wasn't able to fulfill his end of the deal. He was in the middle of a family dispute and the vehicle was part of this dispute.

He said he'd either refund me the money or replace the truck with a similar truck that wasn't tied up in family drama.

I elected to give him a shot on another truck (I know...).

I received the truck on March 14th and the title on March 26th (yesterday!). I took everything to the local Tax Collector's office and I now have the vehicle titled in my name.

118 days from start to finish...but the nightmare is over and I'm loving my new ride.
