Variations in a listing -- please help -- and why so much easier on Etsy?

Can someone recommend a source for learning how to write a listing with product variations? The Help bot had me close to throwing things last night. Fortunately I -- and my items -- made it through to a fresh new day! I've been at this for more than 20 years, but 'Variations' have me stumped. Soooo clunky!! I shop on Etsy and am amazed at how easy it is to go into one of their seller's "shops," load up my cart with things until I reach a pricepoint that allows free shipping, and make the seller and myself very happy. Sorry, some of this is just venting, but I really have a TON of stuff that I don't want to write individual listings for. Thanks!
