Variations counting toward selling limits

Is there any way to get around item variations counting toward your total selling limit?  My limit is currently 1600 items, which would be WAY more than I need if eBay didn't calculate the total number of listings this way.  For example, I have a T-shirt, 4 different colors, sizes available from small to 4XL.  eBay counts this as 28 items instead of one, yet it only counts it as one in the total used to determine the number of free listings I get each month.  It's so frustrating, and it adds up quickly as most of my items have either size or color variations or both.   I actually have about 325 items that I'd like to list, but I can't list over 100 of them because I've reached my limit.  And even though I've had this account for probably 15 years, since I only just started selling these items in May, they are treating me kind of like a new seller and will not approve an increase when I've requested it.  Anyone know of anything I can do?

There is no way around the variations being counted. Your limit isn't just what you can list - it is what you can sell plus have active.

I assume there are some sizes or colors that are slow movers, so I would skip listing those in favor of the ones that will generate sales.  The more successful sales you have with no problems, the quicker your limits will be increased.

Thanks.  I figured that was the case, but thought it was worth checking just in case someone knew something I didn't.
