Using a gift card when automatic payment has been set up

EBay contacted me today to set up an automatic payment method and ship to address, but now I have no idea how I can use a gift card as payment. I wasn't presented with any opportunity to enter the gift card information when I submitted my auto pay information. From what I can see from others, the transaction (payment) will be completed before I have a chance to use the gift card. Is that true? And is this something that only some sellers use? It's the first time I've come across this.

Autopay is something that is now set up on all seller accounts, but most sellers do not know they can disable it. Sellers who attract multiple purchases for combined checkout would likely want to disable autopay if they knew.

Buyers are slowly put into the autopay program as eBay slowly rolls out the feature. When I tested last summer,  I had one buyer account in the offers autopay, one in the auction autopay, and one in neither.

Buyer "offers" have been slowly rolling into autopay over the past year, and I think that process is complete and all buyers are now affected. "Auctions" are now starting the slow transition into autopay, where the first bid must go through autopay. 

In my testing of autopay for offers, I found that the entire checkout screen is displayed when making the initial offer -- I think subsequent counteroffers skip that screen.  You can select gift cards on that screen, so check the whole screen carefully when making an initial offer.

In the "offer" screenshot below, we can see that most fields can be changed. When making an offer, carefully review all fields, just as you would when making a purchase. 

Buying - autopay changes

Bidding seemed to be different. When I performed the same test on an initial bid, I did not see the full set of fields. However, that test was last summer, when autopay was just starting for bids, so the screen may have changed since then.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, it seems that bidding doesn't allow you to enter in any gift card information, only when you are making an offer. It's unfortunate, but I guess something we have to live with for now. Hopefully eBay will find a way to include gift cards with autopayment.
