Unable to Revise a Listed Item

6 times in the last 4 weeks, ebay has not allowed me to either sell a similar item or to revise an existing item. it asks me a security question to which i answer(and of course it appears to be the wrong answer) and then it tells me i have to call them with a security code/number  they provide. so essentially i have to verify my identity with them before i can even revise an item. this happens on the same computer i always use. i have told the ebay people putting these roadblocks into my process makes me not to want to list items. and it also prevents me from updating or improving the listings that i already have. is this really the result they are looking for?  i dont have to list anything on ebay ie. it is not my sole source of income and when they make it this complicated  i avoid using it altogether.
