Transaction Defect Rate

I started selling in 2022 and really had no idea what I was doing.  Early on I ran into some issues where I made mistakes on inventory.  I had to cancel those sales and when it asked me for a reason I used "out of stock".  Well since that time I now understand that I can only have a percentage of "out of stock" items before it affects my seller rate.  I have managed not to have any more instances of out of stock items.

Last week, I went to ship a breakable item and dropped it.  A small piece was broken.  I contacted the buyer and explained the situation.  I gave her the option of going ahead and shipping and giving her a 75 percent partial refund or I could keep the item and refund the full amount.  She opted for a full refund.  When I went to process the refund, it asked for a reason.  Nothing seemed to fit, so I picked "Other" and then gave a reason as to what happened.

I went into my account this week only to see that Ebay has charged that as an "out of stock" refund.  It wasn't out of stock and I certainly couldn't send a broken item.  I have contested the charge but Ebay has not even responded to me.  This "out of stock" return has now put me into the "Below Standard" position.  This is really frustrating.  I have 100 percent positive on every other portion of my selling history.  What should I do?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Transaction Defect Rate

You chose a reason that earns a defect.  You can contact eBay and ask if they will forgive this one defect.  I think they forgive one per year.

Re: Transaction Defect Rate

Thanks for the info.  I have sent a message to Ebay but they haven't responded.
