Submitting multiple counteroffers

I have an item listed for sale, with "make an offer" option posted on the listing.  When I receive multiple offers, I want to counteroffer the same amount of $ to each person making an offer.  Can I make counteroffer to more than one buyer?  Do I automatically accept the first response?  Or....must I  make just one counteroffer at a time and wait for the buyer to respond?  That latter option could take a very long time.....days, etc.

Do you have multiples of the item?  If so, then you can make multiple counter offers.  If you only have one item, I would only make one counter offer at a time.  You don't want multiple buyers to accept multiple offers if you only have one item.
