Stolen items. Does eBay collect serial numbers on electronics?

I recently had a camera stolen from me. Since there are several identical cameras for sale on eBay, I wonder if one might be mine. I have the serial number but postings don't always show the serial number of the item. Does eBay collect the serial numbers? Is there a way to go about my search? Unfortunately, it was in my checked bag, so I know the day it was stolen but it traversed 3 different airports, so the location is unknown.

After all, if I don't find my original camera, I might buy one of these as a replacement!

No, serial #s are not required or tracked.  Most stolen property is sold out on the street, not online.  Criminals don’t like to leave tracks or pay fees.
