S.O.S.!!
I am attempting to increase the declared value for my shipment, which needs to go out the door asap. I am shipping with UPS and attempted to increase the default $100 coverage to the actual sale value of around $2,800. The eBay/UPS system informed me that the maximum allowed declared value is 999.99.
Since that's no good, and I really need to get this item shipped, I purchased the shipping labels, thinking I could find supplementary insurance through some other source.
Spoke to an outside insurance vendor and I was referred directly to UPS Reseller Support Services, since I had already printed the shipping labels. Seems it is out of the vendor's hands.
UPS Reseller Support Services referred me to UPS Billing, saying that only Billing could increase the declared value on an existing shipping label. Apparently there is something like a $50,000 maximum, not $999.
The first Billing support lady said she thought this was possible and was checking with a colleague, but I was accidentally (I think) hung up on the second time she put me on hold, so...had to start over.
The second billing support lady advised me that they could NOT increase the declared value for an existing shipping label, and said I have to contact eBay, so.....here I am, sorely in need of support and needing it immediately. Please advise.
Thanks and again...

You are not charged for a UPS label bought through eBay until after the item is delivered, so you don't need to use the existing label. For an item this valuable I recommend buying the label directly through UPS on your own account. It must also be signature required. You should be able to add the new tracking number in eBay, but I have heard of folks having problems doing that. If the buyer is agreeable, I would cancel this order, relist and let them buy it again, and then buy my own label and then enter that tracking number.
Good luck.
