Seller protection

I recently sold an end table for over $1200 and had significant shipping fees. The ad said no refunds. The buyer demanded a refund based up doctored photos. I responded with pictures pre shipment. ebay issued buyer refund and did not require him to return item I am out about $2,000 and am reluctant to sell on ebay. Any suggestions?

The buyer must have opened an "Item not as described" case.  When this happens it overrides your No Returns policy and you are required to accept the return, pay the return shipping charges and provide a full refund once the item is returned.  Since eBay never sees the item either before the sale or after the delivery they will accept what the buyer says.  The photos you had pre sale mean nothing to eBay since almost anything can happen during delivery.  Since you fought the return the buyer asked eBay to step in and they refunded the buyer and will not give you the fees back that you were charged.

An item of this kind should be listed for local pick up only.  This way no shipping is involved and the buyer can check out the item when picking it up.
