Seller offered to keep the item for free

Seller canceled my order by my reasonable request. Regardless cancelation, the item arrived at my address. I contacted the seller and offered him the item back if he pays shipment return. Seller responded that he recognized his mistake and offered me to keep the item. Do I need any additional documentation to keep the item without being charge in a future, or his brief EBay message offering to keep an item is good enough? I appreciate if anyone would clarify my concern. Thank you.

Once they refund you, you’re done.  They have no way to re-bill you.
