Seller feed

I just sold an item and eBay is trying to charge me fees on the sales tax and the shipping charges which I do not receive any of. This is not standard business practices for other online auction sites does anyone know if there are any options to this?

There are no options. The fee is charged on the total from the buyer, just as PayPal did when we were paid through them.

There are many possible reasons for the fee structure, here’s a few - choose the ones you like -

- Putting the fee on the shipping stops sellers from underpricing an item and overpricing the shipping. A decade ago, you had $10 items with $100 shipping.

- Charging fees on the shipping means the seller offering ‘free’ shipping does not pay higher fees than the seller  who prices shipping separately.

- All payment processors charge fees on the total including tax and shipping.

- eBay handles all of the sales tax reporting, why shouldn’t they charge a fee for this service?

- eBay lowered the fee %s when they started processing payments and collecting the tax, to allow for the fee to be charged on the total.

-The math is easier. Excluding these items means the %s would go up,  the fees would not go down.

-why not? eBay can structure their fees any way they like 🙂
