Seller canceled my order for an address problem

Hi!

I ordered and paid for an item. The money came out of my account. The seller then canceled my purchase citing “problem with buyer address”. There was never a problem with my address. They canceled my purchase for no good reason. Seller refunded my money, but I really wanted the item. I asked seller to further explain why they canceled this way, and I have not received any response. It has been over a week and still no response (2 messages sent). Please advise how I can get Ebay involved to help me get an answer from the seller.

Thanks!

Bob

Seller canceled my order for an address problem

I recently had a seller cancel an order for a problem with my address. The problem was that I live in California, and the seller's dropshipper would not ship to California due to the Prop65 labeling requirements. I don't really blame them, since the labeling requirement is onerous. However, it was fortuitous because I found the item locally at half the cost.

Other times, a seller is not aware that the buyer is international, and the seller has not set up international shipping, so they'll cancel due to an address problem because they are not set up to ship.

Or, similarly, the buyer is in a flyto destination, like HI or AK or one of the island protectorates, and the seller only ships via a ground freight service and is unable to reasonably ship to those locales.

But sometimes, there is a hidden issue.

When a seller is out of stock and has to cancel an order, they receive a defect on their account. Some will try to sneak past that defect by using a different reason for cancellation, and might choose the "problem with buyer address" or "buyer requested cancellation" as a way to get around eBay policy issues.  If you suspect this is the reason, you can report the seller for violating policy.

Does it really matter to you why the seller cancelled?    The reason the seller gave was "problem with buyer's address" ... that's his story and he's sticking to it.  He's not going to give you a different answer.  Of course he's lying.  Choosing the "problem with address" reason gets him off the hook for eBay sanctions.  You got your money back.  Few things on eBay are unique.  Find another seller.
