Confused about key words when searching. Example:  I'm looking for vintage tape measure keychains.
So I type "vintage keychains"  0 vintage tape measure keychains in results? 
I thought it would show all items with "vintage keychain in the title"  why do I have to type in  tape measure for it to  show tape measure. I thought vintage keychains were the key words?

There are no eBay-provided keyword phrases or words.  The keywords in the title are whatever each individual seller wants to type in.

Do NOT put your keywords in quotes - that forces the search mechanism to include only listings with that string of words in the title.

And I just used your phrase    vintage tape measure keychains    and got a bunch of listings with various types of old tape measures - including at least one with a keychain.
